IKOS Systems Unveils 15 Million Gate Emulator

MUNICH, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2001--DATE Show/IKOS Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:IKOS), a leading provider of high-performance design verification solutions, today announced its new generation VStation-15M emulator.

VStation-15M, the 4th generation emulator from IKOS, is targeted directly at solving the system level integration needs of today's complex SoC designs. The emulator provides users with up to 15 million usable ASIC gate capacity and performance up to 2 MHz. The VStation capacity ratings include IKOS' 100% visibility feature, which provides visibility of all internal and external signals at any time.

Greater design verification quality can also be achieved with the VStation-15M through the use of the IKOS co-modeling environment. This environment enables transaction based software models to co-emulate at performance levels fast enough to allow the use of real world system tests.

Chris Hoogenboom, CEO and President of Internet Machines Corporation, a leading developer of complete network processor and switch fabric solutions for high-speed carrier and Internet infrastructure equipment, and an early adopter of the VStation-15M, commented, ``The time to market window in our business is brutal. Our current designs exceed 10M gates and are doubling with every new design. We must have a very sophisticated, massively parallel, development and verification strategy to get our products to market quickly, and verification is right on the critical path to revenue. Our engineering team has used three generations of emulators from IKOS, and IKOS' ability to reliably increase the capacity of their emulator while improving performance and ease of use has been an important factor in our current use of the VStation-15M. The fact that we can configure up to three of these systems together is an added plus.''

The VStation-15M consists of 9 array boards with Virtex V800 parts. At 36 inches in length by 21 1/2 inches wide and only 27 1/2 inches high this generation of VStation retains the small footprint that has been one of the hallmarks of IKOS emulators and has enabled the IKOS systems to comfortably reside in designer's cubicles and offices.

``We believe that the productivity enhancements our new system provides will shave weeks of verification time off schedules. Our new faster SCSI workstation interface will enable upload and download times that are 400% faster than our prior generation of systems,'' said John Mancini, Director of Product Development for IKOS.

``The higher gate capacity of the new system is critical for customers verifying complex SoC designs,'' said Ramon Nunez, president and CEO of IKOS Systems. ``Leading edge companies are creating designs in the 10 million gate range today and projecting that their next design will be at least double that size. This new generation of product from IKOS will support even the most complex SoC design verification requirements for several generations of chips to come,'' Nunez continued, ``Our patented Virtual Wires(TM) technology allows us to create a new generation of emulator every 12 - 18 months and a reduction in the cost per gate to the customer. These systems are backward compatible to previous generations to protect the customer's original investment. Our proven track record of product development enables customers to have complete confidence that we will be able to keep up with their verification requirements.''

The VStation-15M will be available late March 2001 and the base system pricing for hardware and software begins at $940,000 (U.S. List Price).
